After the fall of the Han dynasty of China in 220.
China was became the era of the Three Kingdoms.

This was the beginning of a long period of division of China.

Only one time，the Jin dynasty unified China. (晋)
But this dynasty was destroyed immediately. (265～316AD)
　
The Jin dynasty survived as dynasty of China Southern. (317～420AD)
However，they were not able to re-unified of China.　
　
The first half of the Jin dynasty is "the Western Jin". (西晋)
The second half of the Jin dynasty is "the Eastern Jin" (東晋)

The two called so to distinguish.

It was the Sui Dynasty. (隋)　
However, this dynasty also did not last long.
This dynasty was also destroyed immediately.(581～619AD)
　
China return to the era of the division again.

But the Tang Dynasty was founded in the confusion of destruction of Sui. (唐)
This Tang dynasty became one of the dynasty to represent China.
