In Japanese, there is a word "issyou-ken-mei".
This word is used on a daily basis.

issyou (one lifetime)
ken (put on the line)
mei (life)

"Risk my life"

If this word had been literal translation to English that is like that.
In fact this word will be translated "very hard". （by google translate）

When dealing with something difficult case.
In that case this word is used to indicate the enthusiasm of their own.
（Of course，it is regardless to the enthusiasm of the actual.）

By the way，"issyou-ken-mei"  that word originally was "issyo -ken-mei".

But two word meaning in japanese.

"Issyo-ken-mei" that word literal translation to English "risk my life for one place".

Meiji Restoration occured after about 700 years from the revolution of the samurai.
The era of samurai was over by it.

The king of the samurai "syougun" was overthrown to make the world of the Emperor again .　
Therefore the name of the Meiji Restoration is a restoration.
　
But Japanese people had tried to reborn in a modern nation at that time.
This restoration was revolution in fact.　
And there was the presence of the Emperor as a centripetal force of that revolution.

For this reason, reverence to the Emperor was common to Japanese at that time.　
Also that thought became the ideological basis to overthrow the fake king "syougun".

After about two decades of the Meiji Restoration, modern constitution was enforced.
The Emperor became monarch of modern constitutional monarchy certainly by that.
But also there was a provision of the following meanings into constitution.

”The Emperor is the sacred presence. Infringement can’t never."
