distant

There is word "Tokoyo" in Japanese Shinto.
If this word translated to english become "distant".

Tokoyo was considered a country of immortality that is over distant the sea by ancient Japanese people.

Immortality was also included meaning "once died person".
Because if die once, not die again.
In other words country of immortality was also country of dead for ancient Japanese people.

・・・・・・・・・

Well,in japan there is a legend of Urashima.
Urashima of fishermen go into the sea distant who is taken to the turtle that helped.
And he arrive to Hourai mountain of Tokoyo.
(in this case,Hourai mountain read to Ryugu)

Of course there was the influence of Taoism of China there.

・・・・・・・・・

If people die their soul climb a mountain.
And become one of tutelary god of their families.

Ancient Japanese people had believed that also.

After Buddhism introduction.

Their soul had passed through hell valley and Futile effort of Buddhism in the mountain.
Then their soul climb to joudo of the summit of the mountain.
And become one of tutelary god of their families.

Japanese people had believed so.

(Just maybe mountain was bridge to climb to heaven for japanese people.)

introduction of noritama★tokitama

Well,joudo-daira

Kings of this land.
They are called "Oshu Fujiwara".
("Oshu" meaning is "northeast region of Japan")

The 12th century, they ruled this land over four generations.
Except the last king who died in the war, they were buried as a mummy in the golden temple.

・・・・・・・・・

When have realize heaven on earth by the merit of Buddhist scriptures.
Therefore, when this world has become the kingdom of heaven.
Then their mummy reborn in this land as one of god of Buddhism.

”Reproduce heaven on earth by gold.”

This mummy idea comes from it as well.

・・・・・・・・・

Well,joudo-daira. (lol)
And hourai mountain.

The elixir of life on Hourai mountain.
Reborn in joudo. (reborn in the kingdom of heaven )

These two is unrelated ideologically?

on earth

Temple that is in the back of a japan's coin is engraved.
The name of temple is "Byodo".
This temple was built to luxurious on the dynasty era of japan.

"If you doubt the existence of heaven, go to Byodo."
"Byodo is Joudo (heaven) on earth."

People at that time said so .

Well, temple that mimics Byodo was built in that land by King of the Northeast of Japan.
This kingdom was established after the revolt. (I write before)

This land was the only gold producing areas in Japan.
The king therefore was able to use gold freely.

That temples was golden all.
Of course it would means to flaunt wealth.

”Reproduce Joudo(Heaven) on earth by gold.”

However, there was such a thought in Buddhist culture in japan of the late 12th century.

・・・・・・・・・

Well,joudo-daira.

This landscape is Hell rather than Heaven.
I thought so.

However this place foliage is very beautiful in autumn.
That landscape is like a reproduce Heaven on earth by gold.

I think so.

conclusive evidence

From the time of the dynasty of more than a thousand years ago, there was no distinction between Buddha and Japanese God in Japan.

The two had been faith as one for a long time.

But after the Meiji Restoration, this two had been separated.
Japanese god called"shinto", had became only state religion.
And Buddhism had been crackdown.

・・・・・・・・・

In the Shinto, mountain is important as a place of faith.
But originally there was also a famous temple of Buddhism there.
Those had been erased at this time.
And lost a large amount of cultural heritage as Buddha statue and Buddhist painting.

”That was a national folly.”
Author of a book that I've read said so.

For example part of "blessing of the sun temple" was independent as Bandai shrine.
And the temple itself was abolished. (Revival in different locations on half a century after)
Thereby, such the mountain has been the subject of worship of only Shinto from a long time ago.
Have given such illusion to the current people.

・・・・・・・・・

Joudo-daira was a place of mountain worship.

I don't know that.
Because there is no conclusive that evidence.

Well,once again here.

In the Shinto (japanese god),mountain is important as a place of faith.
Originally there was also a famous temple of Buddhism there.
Because the two had been faith as one for a long time.
But those temple had been erased at this time.
And lost a large amount of cultural heritage as Buddha statue and Buddhist painting.

”That was a national folly.”
Author of a book that I've read said so.

・・・・・・・・・

bandai mountain (place of worship in the Shinto)
joudo-daira (in Buddhism like heaven)
issai-kyou (meaning Complete Buddhist scriptures)
hourai mountain (maybe in Taoism like heaven)

new wave

Tokuichi is not a disciple of Kukai surely.
He was the high priest of Hosso Sect of Buddhism that lived in this land.

Kukai was the founder of the Shingon sect in Japan.
Hosso sect was old sect compared to the Shingon sect of Kukai at that time.

By the way,to same age, there was one more person who had been brings a new sect to japan.
The man who named ”Saityou”.
He was the founder of the Tendai sect in Japan.

Kukai and Saityou.
This two men were representatives of a new wave of Japanese Buddhism.

Tokuichi was conflicting viewpoints with these two monks as a representative of the old wave. (especially to Saityou)

・・・・・・・・・

Why is there such a legend, then?
Because Tokuichi was defeated in a dispute with Saityou.
Then Hosso sect became waning.

Conversely sect of Kukai and Saityou had spread throughout Japan.
This temple might was temple of Hosso sect originally.
But from some time, this temple became a temple of the Shingon sect.
Perhaps this legend was made after that.

・・・・・・・・・

Of course, first, there was a decline of Hosou sect.
Then looked for that reason to the defeat of Tokuichi.
It may be this case in fact.

But would certainly was this era was the turn of the era.
These two new wave has continued to the present day after more than a thousand years.

blessing of the sun

There is Bandai mountain to southwest of Azuma mountain.
According to one theory, the meaning of "Bandai" is ”bridge of rocks to climb to heaven”.
As the name implies,Bandai mountain is a symbol of this area.

・・・・・・・・・

Once upon a time in Japan.
Bandai mountain had called "Disease mountain" originally.
And people had been tormented to this mountain.

1200 years ago, this mountain erupted and made a huge lake in one night.
People had deepened the suffering.

Buddhist monk "Kukai" in Kyoto who heard it was came to this land.
(Kyoto is the capital of Japan at that time)

He prayed to the Buddha, and drove off the evil.
And he built a temple called "e-niti-ji" on this land.
("e-niti-ji" meaning is "temple of blessing of the sun")
He did leave this temple to his disciple "Tokuichi" and he walked away.

Then, from some time,Disease mountain was became called Bandai mountain.
(bridge of rocks to climb to heaven)

And they lived happily ever after.

Fin.

・・・・・・・・・

Of course this is mere legend.
Huge lake called "inawashiroko" was made at tens of thousands years ago in fact.

Also there is no record that Kukai came to this land.
(Yes he was a real person)

According to one theory, the man who actually built "e-niti-ji" was Tokuichi.
(There is no accurate record about that)
