the doers

I go back era a little.

There was a man named "Shang Yang" in the Warring States period of China. (商鞅・?BC-338BC)
He was a young nobleman of a small country called "Wèi" originally. (衛)

"Rule of law is the only way to end the Warring States period."

And he was also known as the guru of the rule of law that was emerging at that time.
Of course,he did advocated vigorously the adoption of his theory to the kings of countries.
But his theory was not adopted from anyone.

"I believe the road to peace does not exist in the other absolutely."

Even so he continued to canvass.

"I want to adopt as national policy the theory of you."

And king such appeared in front of him at last.
It was "Xiao Gong" of the Qin. (孝公 Reign 361BC-338BC)

・・・・・・・・・

"I declare.
After this,I will never fail to reward good conduct nor to punish evildoing."

Management system of the people by the strict law.
The merit system by strict law.
And start of counties and prefectures system.
(at the territory of Qin of the Warring States period.)

He ran the various policies by the rule of law under this king.
It gave a great effect on the national power of the Qin.
The Qin became the great power day by day.

All was well.

・・・・・・・・・

By the way,why his theory was not accepted initially quite?

There was the presence of the aristocracy to the big reason.
Because his theory were in conflict with the vested interests of the aristocracy.

"He is the destroyer of the good old order."

Therefore,he had been received strong opposition such always.

Note:And here, there was a flashpoint of conflict between Confucians and the rule of law.

"Aristocracy of old-fashioned.
They are the doers of only idling their's time away.
They are good for nothing.

Yes, they are presence to be destroy.
But Confucians defend them by authoritarianism and formalism of anachronistic.

So Confucians are the very useless doers."

Those who advocate the rule of law.
Many of them had such recognition against Confucianism.
